Rafael Benitez on the verge of sack after shocking form

Rafa Benitez became Madrid manager to great fanfare this summer, but his defensive tactics have so far failed to win the approval of Real’s notoriously tough-to-please fans.

And his departure from the Bernabeu could be a little closer, as the Mirror report that Real president Florentino Perez has refused to rule out a return for former Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho.

Asked about the possibility of a second spell for the Portuguese, Perez said “I have great memories of Mourinho but he’s not coming right now, we’re only thinking about Benitez. But you never know what might happen in the future.”

He also went on to confirm that the club’s long-term plan was for France legend Zinedine Zidane to take over as manager.

Zidane is currently coach of Real’s youth team, but with Perez’s history of impatient sackings, he could find himself promoted sooner rather than later.

What do you think? Will Mourinho get another top job? Can Zidane become a top-level coach?
