Spanish giants to swoop for Chelsea forward in the summer

Atletico Madrid are flush with cash right now, after selling flop striker Jackson Martinez to Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande for around £31m.

And the Colchoneros plan to devote those funds to re-signing Chelsea striker Diego Costa this summer.

Obviously the move depends on Atleti’s ban. Diego Simeone will be hoping that a decision will not be made on the club’s appeal until after the summer, which would allow them to make signings.

Chelsea have had difficulties this season, and though performances have improved lately, they are nonetheless almost certain to miss out on European competition.

That could trigger rapid-fire exits from some of the club’s bigger stars, and Diego Costa could agitate for a move back to the Spanish capital.
